How to Protect Fragile Artwork, Mirrors, and Glass Furniture During a Move

Artwork, mirrors, glass tabletops, and decorative pieces can be among the most delicate belongings in a household. Their surfaces may be vulnerable to scratches, impact, pressure, and sudden movement during transportation.

Using appropriate packing materials and handling techniques helps reduce the risk of damage.

Choose Suitable Packing Materials

Use protective wrapping, cushioning materials, sturdy cartons, and suitable corner protection. Select packaging based on the item's size, weight, shape, and fragility.

Avoid allowing glass surfaces to move freely inside a carton. Empty spaces should be filled with appropriate cushioning material.

Protect Artwork and Picture Frames

Cover framed artwork with suitable protective materials and add corner protection where necessary. For valuable artwork, consider specialist art packing or transport services.

Keep framed items separate from heavy boxes that could shift during transit.

Handle Mirrors and Glass Panels Carefully

Large mirrors and glass panels can be difficult to carry because of their size and weight distribution. Use suitable equipment and trained assistance for oversized pieces.

Protect edges and corners, and avoid placing heavy objects against glass surfaces.

Label Fragile Boxes Clearly

Mark cartons containing delicate items so that everyone involved understands the handling requirements. Labels should support careful handling, but they do not replace proper packaging.

Keep an inventory of valuable or particularly fragile belongings.

Ask About Special Handling

Some items may require specialist packing, custom crates, or additional insurance arrangements. Discuss these requirements before booking rather than waiting until moving day.
